Improving Education

1. Howard Stepnenson prevented cuts in education funding during economic downturn of 2002 to 2004, while other budgets were slashed;
2. Put more dollars into the classroom through block grants;
3. Helped secure a 13% increase in public education funding for the coming year;
4. Works for parental choice in education;
5. Sponsored & passed the legislation for performance pay pilot program; and
6. Sponsored & passed high school basic skills remediation results-based stipend.

Protecting Taxpayers

1. Helped win $90 million in tax cuts in the 2006 General Session;
2. Working for $70 million more cuts in special session; and
3. Prevented the spending lobby’s attempts to repeal truth-in-taxation property tax limitation law.

Protecting Utah’s Environment and Your Property Rights

1. Working to prevent nuclear rods from crossing BLM land to enter Skull Valley;
2. Protecting your private property rights.

Improving Roads

1. Funding the South Salt Lake County & Northern Utah highway corridors;
2. Convincing colleagues that highway congestion is more costly than new lane miles; and
3. Funding corridor acquisition while land prices are still comparatively low.
