Why it is Unfair to Split The Jordan School District

Senate Bill 123 will divide Jordan School District into two new distrcts. This is unfair to those living in the west side of the Jordan School District because the west side is experiencing most of the growth in the school age population and will end up paying proportionately higher taxes than those who will be living in the new district that will be created on the east side. Proponents of Senate Bill 123 say it is designed to create smaller school districts and smaller schools, but in reality, it will create two districts of more than 35,000 students each. A better way to achieve the goal of creating smaller schools and school districts would have been to create four new districts with natural borders along city lines.

Clik here to listen to a recording of my testimony in the February 2nd Senate Public Education Committee meeting on this issue.
